Making New Worlds: Li Yuan-chia & Friends is the first book to document the extraordinary activity at the LYC Museum & Art Gallery in Banks, Cumbria between 1972 and 1983. L'Italia contemporanea vive drammaticamente i profondi cambiamenti imposti da un rapido e consistente flusso immigratorio. Questi cambiamenti appaiono più pronunciati nelle aree in cui, fino a un recente passato, l'immagine e la memoria erano legate all'emigrante con la valigia di cartone in partenza per le Americhe. Tuttavia, nessuna immagine viene sostituita in modo indolore e automatico. L'irruzione dei migranti sulla scena pubblica locale e nell'agenda politica nazionale provoca infatti non solo un turbamento nella vita quotidiana, ma anche la necessità di una ridefinizione del Sé, in questo caso costituito dai locali e dai migranti, tesi nello sforzo di un collettivo processo di immaginazione di un modello di convivenza.
